I was very pleased to receive an email the other day from our dear friend and Shotwell subject Alexander Klein announcing his latest short film — a beautifully honest and humble documentary on legendary photographer Bruce Gilden. Gilden is known for his fascination “with normal people on the street and the idea of visual spontaneity.”
In the piece, Gilden guides us through his recent (and very personal) work in Haiti and the effect that life has on the common man. Although Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, and brutally unforgiving, Gilden always seems to find the human stories and a kind of amusing duality in his subjects. Klein and his crew completely nailed this. This is a must watch.
