I’m not particularly a huge fan of Urban Outfitters, but I am indeed a very huge fan of legendary photographer, Stephen Shore. If you’re not familiar, please follow the link.
‘Known for his deadpan images of banal scenes and objects in the United States,’ Shore brings this aesthetic to UO’s latest ‘Fall Preview.’ It’s certainly a refreshing shift from their recent aesthetic, putting forth a more honest, less self-aware collection for the book. See more after the jump.

Boy aren’t we being snobby… What’s wrong with UO? They provide in-demand fashion at a reasonable price…? Is there something ethically wrong with the company that should be known? Do they contribute to Slave/Child labor? Something else equally appalling? Otherwise, a photo gig is a photo gig and making contacts in your industry of choice, shooting quality work and being professional will always be helpful to your career — weather or not you like the company’s fashion personally or not.

As far as ethics go Urban Outfitters fits in the category of not ethical. They constantly sells ripoffs from t-shirt designers, especially some close personal friends who have had their art printed at Threadless.com. UO are plagiarism ridden and it not only hurts the designers that originally made the art, but also the integrity and honesty of retail all over. I feel that with a few simple google searches, or even just a browse through Threadless’ catalog you can find shirts that artists have submitted or that UO has placed into print without even doing the necessary research to avoid copyright infringement.

Clothing is not currently copyrightable under US law.

Clothing is not, but illustrations and designs are. Graphic tee ripoffs are one of the worst and most prevalent forms of plagiarism hurting the designers. Sure imitation is flattery but plagiarism is still plagiarism and it’s against the law to use someone else’s copyrighted art for your own gain.
