Grain & Gram

grainandgram

Grain & Gram is the new ‘Gentleman’s Journal’ that brings you articles and videos on dudes that are in the business of making hand-made, timeless wares. The site is pretty new, so they don’t have a ton of content at this point, but their art direction and photos are really nice, the subjects they’ve chosen are compelling, and they have a really cool short documentary on printmaker Nick Sambrato (pictured above) which you can watch below.

BMW — The Story of Three

bmw-say mayday1

I love catching pieces like this that bring together retro advertising and nostalgia back to a classic icon. Design heavyweights Digital Kitchen teamed-up with Austin based agency GSD&M to create this brilliant piece celebrating the 34 year history of the BMW 3 Series. It combines the vintage styling and design that created the classic driving machine and combines it with the more contemporary 2011 BMW 3 series.

Mark_Weaver-Say-Mayday

How To Destroy Angels released their latest 6-track EP titled How To Destory Angels as a free download yesterday. Normally I wouldn’t be there because I haven’t rocked NIN since I was in 7th grade, but I’m into Mariqueen from West Indian Girl and I instantly recognized the cover art illustrator as Mark Weaver. Weaver’s aesthetic is really growing into a signature style at this point which is awesome. Hit the jump to see the full illustration.

If you don’t have an iPad, you’re slipping

My friend told me about the new iPad spot and how he felt like he was slipping because he didn’t have one yet. So I just had to check it out for myself, and as it turns out… he was right! This shit is crazy powerful and magical.

According to Apple’s latest broadcast campaign; if you aren’t down with the Vespas, or Sperry Topsiders, or The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, then you my friend are irrelevant and you have to get your ass out of Silverlake.

Penfield Packs

Penfield-Squall Hickory 2

I’ve been seeing some dope Penfield spring jackets around LA lately, so I went to go peruse the collection on their site. Indeed they had quite a grouping of very nice outerwear, but fortunately I stumbled over their bag selection. Not only is this stuff super well-designed, but it’s utilitarian and affordable. My favorite is undoubtedly the Oxon, but skip through the jump to decide for yourself.

Where They Create

Where-They-Create

For anyone trying to find the next great studio-visit site, Where They Create might be your next destination. The site is run by Paul Barbera, an interior-based photographer who connects with artists while traveling for work, and photographs them in their creative spaces. Recently, he stopped by the Australia offices of Monster Children, who share a second office with THIS in L.A. Check out some more images after the jump.
