The Rapture, Kanon Summer style

With Summer quickly coming to a close, this weekend Say Mayday took a little road trip out to sleepy Sag Harbor for one last go poolside. Kanon Vodka was kind enough to host. GrandLifeNYC added the requisite charm. The Rapture playing live for the intimate crowd of downtown hustlers was clearly the icing on the cake. And while we’re sure some far superior video of the event will surface at some point, we couldn’t help bangin’ out some flip cam shots for everyone at home…if you look closely enough, you may even catch one of the Say Mayday editors busting some filthy post-Rapture backflips into the pool. BEST SUMMER EVER.

Kissy Suzuki @ Molly Malones {LA}

When they aren’t bailing one another out of jail, Kissy Suzuki plays the type of garage jams that get you in the mood to ‘make it’ in the back of a mid-70’s van with a mural of a Viking chick that’s just like… protecting.

Sept 1st they graduate from Highland Park and make their very first Hollywood appearance @ Molly Malones. Do not miss this.

The taste of Brooklyn, part two

Well, part three to be exact. The team at The L Magazine wrapped up their stellar series of Summer parties in honor of Absolut Vodka’s latest annual offering, Absolut Brooklyn (if you can believe it, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Boston all preceded everyone’s favorite borough!)

Tanlines kicked things off, with Memory Tapes rounding out the bill. It hit the right note. Now, for all the fun faces!

The Wassaic Project

Last month a friend of ours tipped us off to an undercover little art and music festival in upstate New York called The Wassaic Project Festival. He told us tales of a picturesque one street town with white clapboard houses and kids on bicycles, of a converted mill that now stood as a seven story gallery space, of an old farmhouse preserved in all its bucolic glory, and of art exhibits, bands, bonfires and camping under the stars. Clearly we didn’t need much convincing.

Blood Feast // Sterling Bartlett {LA}

I am pleased to announce that one of our personal favorite Blood Is The New Black artists, Sterling Bartlett will be handling a heavy setlist for our monthly Monday night bender. I have been waiting for this night all summer long and we going to be getting deep, grinding out to stoner metal, anthemic seventies jams, and old gangster shit.

Cheap drink specials, lots of tattoos, and you may or may not meet a pro skater doing blow in the bathroom.

Spike Jonze + Dave Eggers Q+A @ FMLY

If you’re in L.A. this weekend and are looking for something to do, we are hooking you the fuck up! Celebrated rogue filmmaker Spike Jonze and cult writer/publisher/editor Dave Eggers will be the focus of Saturday night’s event at FAMILY Bookstore on Fairfax. The event spotlights the release of Jonze’s new book, There Are Many of Us, in addition to Eggers’ first illustration book, It Is Right to Draw Their Fur. Check out their descriptions below.

Filled with gorgeous photography, behind-the-scenes ephemera, and funny, inspiring interviews, There Are Many of Us celebrates the uniquely spontaneous making of Spike Jonze’s new movie I’m Here (click the link to watch the trailer), a boy-meets-girl love story, set in LA, experienced by robots. The book includes an original CD soundtrack as well as a DVD of the thirty-minute movie I’m Here, with special bonus content.

It Is Right to Draw Their Fur is Dave Eggers’s first collection of drawings. Most of these works are of unusual mammals, most often accompanied by slogans with ancient, heroic, or just plain odd overtones. This full-color package will be a combination of 26 large-sized prints and an accompanying booklet.

The show will also include a live acoustic performance by Aska, the artist who scored Jonze’s film. Admittance is free, so get there early! Check out the full flyer after the jump.

The taste of Brooklyn

DianaLevine-3394
Have you heard of Spike Lee’s new joint? Nah, it’s not some racially charged neighborhood flick. This one you can drink. The prolific director, die hard Knicks fan and general man about town just debuted his latest collabo with Swedish vodka makers Absolut. In partnership with Brooklyn bible The L Magazine, the two have been throwing some kick ass parties across Brooklyn all Summer called ‘Bonus Track’. Javelin and Dam Funk kicked off the first one. Kurt Vile and the Blank Dogs did their thing at Bonus Track #2 last night. And I don’t know what’s in store for #3, but I gotta imagine they’re gonna bring the heat. We highly encourage you to check it out. I’ll leave you with some shots from last night.

Oh, and red apple + ginger = better than it sounds!

Kissy-Suzuki-flyer

This Saturday July 31st Los Angeles’ own silky smooth, Bond Girl rock outfit Kissy Suzuki is back at it @ Mr. T’s Rock N Bowl. Garage rock never sounded so sleazy and I can personally attest to how much ass these guys have been kicking recently and I can’t wait to see them finesse their way into your hearts and pants.

Together with friends Ninja Knuckle, The Hard Good Bye, Lost Lake, and The Guppies it will be full night of the immoral and corrupt behavior. You are all encouraged to touch yourself. Come out come out wherever you are!
