New video for Cee Lo Green’s ‘Fuck You’

If the first text-laden video (that you’ve definitely seen) for Cee Lo’s next ‘Crazy’ didn’t get you, this one might be more up your alley. The motown-inspired track inspires a new video filled with all the 50s-60s paraphernalia, garb, and dancers you’d expect to see. Enjoy the video below, and if it goes down, just Like Cee Lo Green’s Facebook page, and you can watch it there.

Kissy Suzuki @ Molly Malones {LA}

When they aren’t bailing one another out of jail, Kissy Suzuki plays the type of garage jams that get you in the mood to ‘make it’ in the back of a mid-70’s van with a mural of a Viking chick that’s just like… protecting.

Sept 1st they graduate from Highland Park and make their very first Hollywood appearance @ Molly Malones. Do not miss this.

The Wilderness Downtown

Could Arcade Fire be any hotter right now? I mean, we’re all for pushing the boundaries of music and multimedia…but seriously, could you leave some creative projects for the rest of us? YOU’RE MAKING US LOOK BAD.

Earlier this month the crew from Montreal were busy selling out Madison Square Garden and bringing on Terry Gilliam and all his quirky charm to run the webcast. Now they’re working with Google to bust out some cutting edge HTML 5 interactivity. If you’re running Chrome as your browser, absolutely do give this a spin…and don’t worry about the pop-ups. It’s all part of the show.

Shangaan music

The last time African “club” music popped up on our radar was 10 years ago with the emergence Kwaito, South Africa’s answer to house music. It pretty much just sounded like a pitched down Masters at Work record and wasn’t particularly memorable.

Enter, Shangaan. Rooted in the ancestral dances of the Shangaan peoples of Mozambique and South Africa, it’s stripped down, sped up and straight crazy. If you tried to throw a happy hardcore rave in the Savannah with just a Casio keyboard from 1987, this is pretty much how it would go down. From Baltimore to Mozambique, dance music will never die. Check out these moves below (hat tip Bleeding Panda)…

The Rap Map

So, I’m not sure how old or new this is, but I came across it this morning, and I got incredibly pumped. Rap Genius, the encyclopedic website for all things hip-hop, has created a comprehensive map using Google Maps to provide (often humorous) event details on specific places across the country referred to in hip-hop songs throughout history. Here’s an example:

Marcy Houses

I’m from Marcy, I’m varsity, chump, you’re JV
— From “Brooklyn’s Finest” by Jay-Z

Marcy is the project where Jay-Z grew up. It’s located in the rough Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant (near the boyhood home of Biggie Smalls, and was a hotbed of drug-related crime during Jay-Z’s childhood in the 1980s. Memphis Bleek is also from the Marcy Houses, but he never used his boyhood connection to Jay-Z to further his rap career or anything…

As it turns out, the Rap Map let me know that the project in which Jay-Z grew up is about a 1 minute walk from my apartment — pretty syked on that. Biggie and Mos weren’t too far either… Visit The Rap Map here.

Caspa + Mr Hudson: what the future sounds like

As if Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix didn’t bring us a healthy enough dose of dreamy, tender sounding dubstep with their fresh to death Luv Step mixtape, West London native Caspa and R&B fancy dude Mr. Hudson have straight blown the hinges off things with this hooky, sentimental monster of a jam. Distorted bass line rumbling, synthy loop building, airy vocals oozing good vibes, it’s what the future sounds like. Here’s to never letting love die.

LISTEN: Kanye West ‘Power Remix’ ft. Jay-Z & Swizz Beats

Kanye reported via his Twitter last night that he had released the official remix of the anthemic new single ‘Power,’ which features Jay-Z, produced by Swizz Beats. I never liked this song, and I still don’t, thus saddening me to be reminded that apparently Young can’t save everything… Maybe you’ll enjoy it? Listen/download below and watch the awesome video for ‘Power’ after the jump.
