Hollis Brown Thornton Q+A

posted by matt

hollis-brown
1. Hi Hollis. Where do you live? What do you like about it?

I live in Aiken, SC, which is also where I grew up. I realized I physically need the climate in the South while living in Chicago. There is all kinds of plant and animal and bug activity during the warm and hot times of the year, just a general sense of vitality, that is motivating. But it is mainly the heat, being hot, sweating, spending 7 months out of the year wearing only shorts and flip flops. I’m just very productive in those conditions.

Unknown Pleasures

posted by jordan

All good things must come to an end. With a heavy heart we announce that Blood Is The New Black is stopping production on their classic Arab Division print. Brendan Donnelly is behind this tasteful re-up on Peter Saville’s timeless piece for Joy Division.

This shirt is an instant classic of the brand on one of my favorites to date, and soon, it will be gone forever. Blood is slanging the last of their stock NOW on their site for 15 bucks. You better get it while the getting is still good.

Vincent Alvarez for Lakai

posted by jordan

You know Lakai has their video game on lock down. Their latest masterpiece stars Vincent Alvarez which was originally slated as a short promo and quickly morphed into a mini-part of sorts.

Directed by none other than by Federico Vitetta and shot by Drew Lauer, this Lakai spot features some of the most impeccable skate footage you’ll ever see. Backed by an Atlas Sound track, you know Lakai did this up one up right. Are you just playing around with your new DSLR and shooting video? Pay attention, because this is how you shoot.

The Mulholland Session — WESC spring 2010

posted by jordan

wesc a

In their incredible spring campaign, WESC took to the top of Mulholland drive for a spring time jump off. Dragging with them activists Alex Prager, Jason Lee, Steve Berra, Yonehara, Chris Pastras, Ray Barbee, and Wieger van Wageningen. Poor guys. This appears to be an absolutely dismal afternoon.

posted by jordan

outlier-01-PINP-thumb

One of the emerging contemporary brands that I am always excited to see progressing is Outlier. Preserving a heritage in community-based cycling lifestyle, Outlier creates a full-line of tailored garments all manufactured locally in Brooklyn. Light and simple, Outlier offers a clean aesthetic for everyone.

A couple of weeks back John Prolly swooped through and popped off some shots of their brand new showroom. Shit looks dope. A laid back spot with a tasteful aesthetic and feel. Hit the jump for a selection of images via John Prolly

Featured Product: ‘Minotaur’ by The Pixies

posted by matt

pixies-minotaur

Either the Pixies are really hurting for cash, or they’re just selling out. I don’t really care, to be honest, because what’s in this package is pretty exciting.

Curated by graphic designer Vaughan Oliver and photographer Simon Larbalestier, this quintessential collection of work by one of the most influential bands in history is a must have for any die-hard fan. The ‘deluxe’ bundle includes:

• Five studio albums on 24k gold-plated CD/DVD/Blu-Ray (the last two formats feature 5.1 Dolby Surround)
• Unreleased 1991 live performance from Brixton
• 54-page book featuring work from Oliver and Larbalestier (who shot the cover art for all the Pixies’ studio albums)
• Custom designed packaging

The ‘limited edition’ bundle (pictured above) includes everything featured in the ‘deluxe’ bundle, plus:
• Individually numbered packages
• Hand-signed packaging by all the band members
• Test pressings of original vinyl albums (potentially)

The deluxe edition will only run you $230, while the limited edition might hurt a little more at $630. You can buy either one here.

Zineswap

posted by matt

zineswap

I’m somewhat ashamed to say that I’d not heard of Zineswap until now. Essentially, it’s a website enabling independent zine publishers to swap their zines with one another. “It also aims to become a vast archive of contemporary zine publishing, existing as both an online catalogue and an annual exhibition.” Such a rad idea.

The list of zines is already robust, and almost all have images to preview. In order to get your hands on some, all you have to do is submit your own. Check out a flip-through video and some images after the jump. Continue reading “Zineswap…”
