Castles In The Sky — Taylor Steele Interview

Taylor-Steele

Castles in the Sky is a completely new approach to
surf filmmaking. Filmed in five countries over three years, the movie delves into the true heart of the locations while the surfers travel through them with a sense of openminded
awe.

Castles In The Sky truly takes a step beyond the traditional surf film and strides in the direction of a documentary about surf in the outer reaches of the globe. Our good friends Drift Surfing caught up with enigmatic filmmaker Taylor Steele for an exclusive, first-ever interview with Steele about his new film. This is a must read.

Castles In The Sky premiers May 4th at the NY Surf Film Festival

Listen: Sleigh Bells — Tell ‘Em

At this point in time Sleigh Bells could probably shit an mp3 and I’d put it on repeat. Today the world got their first taste of the lead track from their debut album Treats and it is a straight up banger. I’m going to make it easy for you. Press play and turn your little laptop speakers all the way up, because that’s how it’s supposed to sound.

The Brooklyn duo (Derek Miller & Alexis Krauss) are locked and set to release Treats May 11th. Hit the jump for a DOWNLOAD and track list. You know, so you remember for the names of the songs you will be bumping all summer.

Penfield Packs

Penfield-Squall Hickory 2

I’ve been seeing some dope Penfield spring jackets around LA lately, so I went to go peruse the collection on their site. Indeed they had quite a grouping of very nice outerwear, but fortunately I stumbled over their bag selection. Not only is this stuff super well-designed, but it’s utilitarian and affordable. My favorite is undoubtedly the Oxon, but skip through the jump to decide for yourself.

At first I thought the idea behind Transplants was a kind of funny because practically everyone is a Los Angeles transplant, but then I realized it’s the perfect excuse to show a load of amazingly talented photographers.

DQM Lookbook Spring ’10

DQM-Spring

The spring lookbook for Dave’s Quality Meat (DQM) is once again hittin’. I’m loving the laid-back, documentary style of the photo set — it definitely has me wanting to take a trip out east and hit the streets with the homies. Skip through the jump to see a bunch of photos from the book.

The unbelievably warm feedback and excitement we’ve received from all our new friends has been incredible!! Thank you so much to everyone who is syked enough on Say Mayday to tell their friends, and we hope that you’ll keep that going!

I regret to inform you, however, that we are now out of stock on our first run of shirts, so to everyone who’s getting one: a) prepare to look like a gangster and b) get ready for a lot of girl/boy attention. We will be sending out all the orders this week, so look for yours!

We will be receiving another run of our shirts promptly, and they will be available in the new Say Mayday Store, which will be up soon! We’ve got a lot of dope apparel in the works, so don’t worry if you missed out this time around — there will be plenty more opportunities to come.

ONE LOVE,
matt+jordan
