When Subrosa announced in early Spring 2009 its introduction into the complete fixed gear market with The Malum Fixed, we eagerly wanted to get our hands on one to test it out. When we heard our friends at Orange 20 Bikes in Los Angeles got a shipment in, it was on.

Turn your iPhone into a Toy Camera!

iphonetoy

At this point my iPhone is pretty much a staple in my life. I practically ask it what I’m going to eat for dinner. I’ve always loved the camera but since I usually have a point in shoot in my pocket, my iPhone’s camera rarely sees much use. That all changed last week when I stumbled on an application set created by Takayuki Fukatsu of Art & Mobile. Takayuki has created one of the simplest, yet elegant additions to the iPhone since headphones. With apps such as QuadCamera & ToyCamera it’s easy to instantly re-create a toy camera effect out of your iPhone.

I was totally blow away by how easy it was to come away with a vintage lomography feel on an iPhone photo and I’ve been downright obsessed with it! Follow the jump to check out some randoms from my iPhone then go download this bad boy right here!

BFF Art Show: JoyRide

Joyride_a

Bikes bikes bikes. I know seriously it’s like I’ve turned into some sort of cycle psycho. But I can’t really help it the Bicycle Film Festival is still in Los Angeles and simply won’t be ignored!

This evening, the festivities continue with JOYRIDE, ‘an art show inspired by the bicycle’. I initially promised myself that I would only see one movie and go out for ONE evening (which I have already scratched off the list) but then I realized that there over 60 amazing artists showing right down the street from my house! It’s always the worst when you break promises to yourself isn’t?

Follow the jump for details and the full flyer and pick out three artists who’s work you want to see. I’ll see you in a few hours.

They’re all free.

dougbiggert1

You probably have never heard of Doug Biggert. Most people haven’t heard of Doug Biggert. Most people in his home town of Sacramento didn’t even know he shot photographs, much less that he had a book of them. But that book, Hitch-Hikers, discovered and promoted by Parisian Xavier Carcelle, documents a group of people with whom he has an experienced familiarity. Read and see more after the jump.

foolsgold
Our very good friends and superdupergroup, Fool’s Gold have been the most recent artist to get the Memory Tapes remix treatment! I love the warm electric fuzzy spin they gave this track. Nadine appears on Fool’s Gold self-titled EP which is due out in September.

For now, if you get a chance to catch Fool’s Gold, do not miss them. And you bet your ass we’ve got some exciting plans with Fool’s Gold down the road.

15 things You Didn’t Know About Heath

Heath_15

The Skateboarder Mag just posted this little gem featuring 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Heath Kirchart. Some pretty funny facts in there about Emerica’s Harley Davidson enthusiast.

“The original concept of Emerica’s Wild Ride was Heath’s idea. He and Justin Regan had long talked about a somewhat renegade tour boiled down to just boards, bikes and the open road. It eventually became a reality when Emerica and Harley paired up for the now annual Wild Ride.“

Dave Eggers: Max At Sea

max at sea
The New Yorker has published a short story from Dave Eggers’ (author of the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are film) ‘very loose’ adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are appropriately titled The Wild Things.

Apparently, as the movie was about to begin principle photography, Eggers was approached by Maurice Sendak to create the novelization of the the children’s book and made it clear that niether the book, nor the film would be “timid adaptations”.

“In a way the movie is more Spike’s version of Maurice’s book, and this novel is more my version.”

Eggers seized the opportunity to completely flush out his Wild Things screenplay in the novel. Eggers began to push the boundaries of the film and took the story in different directions some of which are more personal to the writer than the film.
